Department of Semiconductor Engineering Lunghwa University of Science and Technology
Article 1 To integrate students’ theoretical knowledge with practical experience and to enhance their professional skills, the Department of Semiconductor Engineering (hereinafter referred to as “the Department”) establishes the Implementation Guidelines for Elective Domestic and Overseas Internship Courses (hereinafter referred to as “the Guidelines”).
Article 2 The term “domestic off-campus internship courses” (hereinafter referred to as “internships”) includes summer internships, workplace practice, and enterprise practice courses with credits.
Article 3 Application channels for internships include:
Industry–academia collaboration projects.
Faculty recommendation.
Self-arranged internships (units must be evaluated and approved by the University, and the work must be related to the Department’s specialization or a secondary specialty). The total number of students participating in summer internships each year shall be determined by the Department’s Internship Committee.
Article 4 Internships generally begin in the summer after the second academic year (between sophomore and junior year, or junior and senior year). The Department offers two types of internships:
Summer internships.
Senior-year semester internships.
Article 5 Students may participate in summer internships during their study in the Department. If the internship hours reach 320 or more (including scheduled seminars or workshops), and certification is provided by the internship unit, 3 credits will be granted.
Article 6 According to the Ministry of Education’s guidelines for subsidizing technical and vocational institutions to offer off-campus internship courses, students may intern during the summer before their junior or senior year. With certification from the internship unit, credits may be waived for summer internships. Senior students may enroll in domestic off-campus internship courses during the announced period, with credits granted according to the Department’s curriculum plan. Internships are generally one semester in duration. The course instructor or advisor is responsible for student guidance, communication, and visitation.
Article 7 Students applying for internships provided by the Department (priority given to industry–academia collaboration) or self-arranged internships (units must comply with safety and health standards) must submit applications before the announced deadline.
Summer internship applications must be submitted before March each year.
Applications for senior-year semester internships must be submitted in March (for fall semester internships) or November (for spring semester internships). Required documents include: Parent Consent Form (Appendix 1), Confidentiality Agreement (Appendix 2), and Internship Application Form (Appendix 3). These must be submitted to the Department Office and approved by the University before the internship begins.
Article 8 Students must report to the internship unit on the designated date and submit the Internship Registration Form (Appendix 4) to the Department Office within one week.
Article 9 Students must submit the Internship Report (Appendix 5), Internship Evaluation Form (Appendix 6), and proof of labor/health insurance or other coverage by the announced deadline. Reports must be submitted before midterm exams. Failure to submit will result in no grade for the report. Students who withdraw from internships without valid reasons (Article 14) will not receive credits.
Article 10 Students who falsify information or arbitrarily change internship units after selecting “self-arranged” internships will not have their hours recognized and will not receive credits.
Article 11 Internship units should be evaluated based on:
Sound system and reputation.
Emphasis on employee training.
Training content aligned with students’ expertise or interests.
Compliance with environmental, labor safety, and health regulations.
Provision of professional internship environments without charging fees to the University or students.
Article 12 Grading of internship credits:
30% by the internship supervisor.
30% by the course instructor/advisor.
40% by the written Internship Report. Passing grade is 60. If supervisor grading is proven unfair, the Department Chair may substitute evaluation.
Article 13 Students must comply with internship unit regulations regarding duration, hours, and duties. Violations may result in disciplinary action.
Article 14 If students discover illegal activities or unreasonable demands at the internship unit, they may terminate the internship with Department Chair approval and transfer to another internship. Credit and grading issues will be reviewed by the Internship Committee.
Article 15 Internship units must be legal companies, organizations, or government agencies within the Republic of China or foreign companies with branches in Taiwan. Multi-level marketing (direct sales) organizations are prohibited.
Article 16 All expenses during internships (meals, travel, miscellaneous) are borne by students unless otherwise provided by the internship unit.
Article 17 Students must ensure proper insurance coverage and comply with company instructions and safety requirements.
Article 18 These Guidelines shall be implemented upon approval by the Department Curriculum Committee, College Curriculum Committee, and Academic Affairs Meeting. Amendments follow the same procedure.
Article 19 These Guidelines are based on Ministry of Education regulations and the University’s Internship Guidelines, and shall be revised accordingly.
